In the most romantic city in the world, the hotel Il Mercante di Venezia enjoys a fantastic position. A few metres from the train station Santa Lucia, a few steps from the public transport terminal on the Grand Canal, five minutes from the terminal Piazzale Roma which unites this unique city with the mainland, Il Mercante di Venezia hotel is the access point for the most popular attractions in Venice.
Il Mercante di Venezia hotel is located in the most favorable position for anyone who wants to visit Venice comfortably: its in  sidestreet on Lista di Spagna which runs along the Grand Canal, immediately before the beginning of Strada Nova, one of the principal pedestrian arteries of the city and certainly the most picturesque walk that there is from the train station to Rialto. Along its course there are many shops, for lovers of shopping, and many bacari (typical venetian eateries) and in the area of Ponte delle Guglie, the colorful local market. The hotel, furthermore, is but a step from the train station and Piazzale Roma. To reach the most reknowned places such as Rialto and San Marco on foot, one just has to let oneself be guided by the street which passes the hotel, or take a waterbus (vaporetto) from the Ferrovia stop a few minutes from the hotel. From here depart waterbusses that run the length of the marvellous Grand Canal, and that stop close to the most important museums and monuments, such as Ca’ Vendramin Calergi, seat of the Venice Casino, Ca’ d’Oro, splendid example of 15th century architecture, the Accademia museum, Venice’s most important art gallery and among the most important in the world, the Peggy Guggenheim collection, very important collection of contemporary art, and the Salute church, Longhena’s magistral work, arriving at the Giardini, location of the Venice Biennale, and Lido, the beach where each year the prestigious Venice Film Festival is held.
The surroundings of the hotel are vivacious and picturesque as it is, and at a few paces some masterpeices of art and architecture are unmissable: Palazzo Labia in Campo San Geremia, with one of the most beautiful and important pictoric cycles of the 17th century by the great Venetian painter Tiepolo; Ca’ Vendramin Calergi, premises of the Venice Casino, work of Condussi, highest example of Renaissance civil architecture where on the mezzanine floor one finds the delicious Wagner museum, which celebrates the great German composer who came here and passed away in 1883; the Ghetto, architectural and urbanistic one-off, intact since the year 1516 from the Institution (and the most ancient in Europe). Around Campo del Ghetto Nuovo the high buildings with the ceilings lowered in order to host the maximum number of persons, the five sinagogues, splendid jewels of art and faith, and the Jewish Museum rich in testimony of the Jewish culture, are an experience not to be missed.
Another itinery that explores less well-known and more suggestive places, is that which leads from Il Mercante di Venezia hotel, over Ponte degli Scalzi on the Grand Canal, and carries on towards Rio Marin, among the most picturesque in Venice, continuing to Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio and passing Scuola di San Giovanni Evangelista, marvellous architecture of the 15th century, the Scuola di San Rocco, famous for its pictoric cycle by Tintoretto, arriving at the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, the large Franciscan church, second only to Saint Marks for art and history, rich in masterpeices, among which the pala dell’Asunta and the Madonna di Ca’ Pesaro, sublime works by Titian.
